Peter Watson

Peter Watson is a writer, art critic, editor, archaeologist, columnist, art historian, psychiatrist, and journalist. His most recent work has focused on the history of ideas, and his last published book was The Great Divide: Nature and Human Nature in the Old World and the New. He has written for The Times, The Observer, Punch, the Spectator, and The New York Times, and has, among others, written investigative articles on auction houses and the international market in stolen antiquities. In 1983 he published Double-Dealer: How Five Art Dealers, Four Policemen, Three Picture Restorers, Two Auction Houses, and a Journalist Plotted to Recover Some of the World’s Most Beautiful Stolen Paintings (republished in 1985 as The Caravaggio Conspiracy), a non-fiction expose which won the Golden Dagger Award.
