Felony of the Week: Night at the Vulcan, by Ngaio Marsh

We’re continuing a theatrical theme this week, with a special price on Ngaio Marsh’s glorious Night at the Vulcan (published in the UK as Opening Night). I have a particular fondness for Night because it’s about a young actress who has moved to the Big City and is desperate for work – and I first read it when I was a young actress who had moved to the Big City and was desperate for work. In the book, of course, the City is London, and young Martyn Tarne has traveled further than I ever did, all the way from New Zealand. Acting work is proving very tough to come by, and as the story opens she is somewhat grovelingly grateful to get a backstage job at the newly reopened Vulcan Theatre. But this is a murder mystery, of course, so she’s soon about to experience a lot more drama than she ever bargained for. And right now, we’re offering a bargain price on the e-book edition!

PS: You’d like to read Night at the Vulcan in paperback, as the gods of publishing intended? No worries. We’ll have the paperback available for you by the end of April. Pre-order it this week, and you’ll still get the bargain price when the book becomes available.
