Paul Adam was born in 1958 in Sheffield, England. He studied law at Nottingham University and established himself in journalism and television writing before embarking on a career as a mystery writer. He has published 11 critically acclaimed thrillers for adults as well as a series of thrillers for children. Adam has played the violin since childhood and it is his interest in the history and making of violins that inspired him to make the hero of two of his novels—The Rainaldi Quartet and Paganini's Ghost—a violinmaker. His experience as a journalist and world traveler has given him the ability to write novels about current and controversial topics. Adams is married with two sons.
