Enter a Murderer
Inspector Alleyn #2
Ngaio Marsh was what you might call “known” for her writing—she was named a Grandmaster of the Mystery Writers of America, was made a Dame by the British Crown, and, over the course of 50 years, wrote 32 novels featuring Inspector Roderick Alleyn. On the side, however, she was also a well-respected theatrical producer (having started out as an actress), and her passion for and knowledge of the theater was displayed in many of Inspector Alleyn’s adventures, not least in Enter a Murderer. Inspector Alleyn has been invited to an opening night, a new play in which two characters quarrel and then struggle for a gun, with predictably sad results. Even sadder, the gun was not, in fact, loaded with blanks.
"It is all good Ngaio Marsh, and that is good enough to satisfy the most critical reader of detective stories"—New York Times
