David Wishart
David Wishart, the author of the Marcus Corvinus series of historical mysteries, has a degree in Greek and Latin Classics from the University of Edinburgh, an education that he has made good use of in his novels. His first novel, I, Virgil, published in 1995, was a fictional autobiography of the poet Virgil. Ovid, the first Marcus Corvinus novel, published the same year, takes as its starting point the question of why the poet Ovid was exiled to the Black Sea. The most distinctive element of the Corvinus series is the amusing, contemporary voice of its young protagonist. In addition to writing, Wishart spent eleven years teaching English as a foreign language in Kuwait, Greece and Saudi Arabia.
