Leslie Thomas
Leslie Thomas was a Welsh writer and journalist; among others, he is the author of the Dangerous Davies detective series and several novels about the British National Service, where he served between 1948 and 1960. His first novel, The Virgin Soldiers (1966) was based on his years in the military and was twice made into a movie, in 1969 and 1977. Several of his novels, including the Dangerous series, have also been adapted for television. Orphaned at 12, Thomas was brought up in a Dr. Barnardo's Home for destitute children; the story of his upbringing was the subject of his first book, the autobiography This Time Next Week.
