Stuart Kaminsky
Stuart Kaminsky (1934-2009) was a novelist, screenwriter, and professor of film studies. He is the author of several mystery series, the longest running of which features Hollywood private eye Toby Peters and is set in the 1940s. Kaminsky started the Moscow-set Inspector Rostnikov series in 1981, with Death of a Dissident (also published as Rostnikov’s Corpse), and went on to write 16 novels in that series. He is also the author of the Abe Lieberman and Lew Fonseca series. Kaminsky received an Edgar Award for his 1989 Rostnikov novel A Cold Red Sunrise, and was nominated six additional times, most recently for his 2005 non-fiction book Behind the Mystery: Top Mystery Writers Interviewed. Kaminsky worked on several screenplays, including the screenplay for Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in America.
